4) What influenced Salim Ali to become an ornithologist?
Ans: Once Salim Ali shot a picture of a bird that had a yellow streak running below its neck. His uncle asked him to contact the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) in Mumbai. Dr. W.S Millard, identified the bird as a yellow-throated sparrow and showed him the Society’s splendid collection of stuffed birds. This incident changed Salim Ali’s life and he became an excellent Ornithologist.

(a) Binoculars – They are used to watch the birds. Ornithologists use binoculars to watch birds from a far distance. Binoculars are a better option than a camera. Birds may be threatened if a camera is around them, so binoculars are useful.

Chhattisgarh Myna is the state bird of Chhattisgarh. It is also called Hill Myna. This bird is omnivorous. This bird lives in the jungle, and evergreen forest. They are also found in wet deciduous forests. The size of the bird is around 28 cm to 30 cm and its weight is around 200 gm to 250 gm. With vivid orange-yellow patches of exposed skin and fleshy wattles on the side of its head and nape its upper body parts are green and glossy black. This bird is usually seen in pairs. These birds give loud calls such as gurgles, screeches, etc.
